Aleš Šteger: poetry/voice

Jure Tori: accordion

Šteger’s poems (performed by the author mostly in Slovenian and English but – depending on the weather – occasionally also in other languages like Spanish and German) and the unique tunes of Tori’s compositions create a passionate experience. The texts question politics, evil, love after love, the borders of human experiences, while the wild melancholic Brandoni-accordion of Jure Tori’s questions the space of language as such, opening with it’s magic sounds space for silence, reflection, unexpected travels in heart and mind.

Jure Tori (1975) is a Slovenian composer and accordionist renown for his sublime style. He has played in many different places, from underground coal mines to the very top of the mountains. The intimacy of his delicate solo accordion embraces the warmth and cosiness of a fire place. He has collaborated with various musicians, most notable with the Austrian double bass player Ewald Oberleitner. Lately he worked on various musical projects like Tori Trio, Tori Tango, Tori Story. With his group Orlek he toured many European countries, USA, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He has performed in New York, Sydney, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Moscow, London, Paris, Prague, Sao Paulo, Monte Video, and, last not least, in the European parliament in Brussels.

Jan Cvitkovič, one of Central Europe’s finest film directors and a poet himself made a great video from one of the poems/songs. You can see it here:
